Description
Obverse:AYTOK K M IOVΛI ΦIΛIΠΠOC CEB. Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Philip II to right.
Reverse:
IOY CЄΠ KOΛΩ NЄCIBI MHT. Tyche of Antioch seated facing; above her head, ram (Aries) leaping right, head left; all within tetrastyle shrine; below, half-length river-god Euphrates swimming right.
Very good coin struck in the large eastern fortress of Nisibis, the main stronghold of the Roman Empire in the Mesopotamian frontier. In EF- condition, the coin conserves full details in both sides, bold reliefs and a nice green patina. Uncommon variant looking to right (contrary to what is usual in Roman coinage).
SNG Copenhagen 242 (Philip I). Nisibis mint, AD 247-249. 7,0 g - 24 mm
