    Description

Ninth President of the United States
    WILLIAM HENRY HARRISON
    1841
Born into Virginia planter aristocracy and educated in the classics, William Henry Harrison spent his life alternating between military and public service. After a stint in the army, he became secretary of the Northwest Territory and subsequently served as governor of Indiana – one of the states carved from the Territory. Harrison earned additional military laurels at the Battle of Tippecanoe in 1811 and in the War of 1812. In 1840, the Whig Party nominated him for president, and he swept the electoral college. But Harrison served less than a month. He died of pneumonia on April 4, 1841.
