Description
This is a beautiful, original,
"Award Medal"
from the United States Treasury Department for
"Patriotic Service"
in behalf of the World War I
"Victory Liberty Loan"
. It is made of Steel from
"Captured German Cannon"
.
During World War I it became the patriotic thing
to do to buy and sell Liberty Bonds. Al Jolson, Mary Pickford, Douglas Fairbanks and Charlie Chaplin all sold Liberty Bonds.
This bond issue of World War I was released on April 21, 1919. Consisting of .5 billion of gold notes at 4.75% interest, they matured after 4 years but could be redeemed by the government after 3. Exempt from all income taxes, they were called
"Victory Liberty Loan"
and appear this way on posters of the period.
Weight: 9.05 Gram, 31 Millimeter, Steel.
