Very Old Antique Telescope, ca1830, with good optics
This neat old telescope looks cool, has excellent optics and is mechanically sound.  However, it has been repaired and has about as many uniquities as one finds in a single telescope. Nevertheless , it works well, is very easy to focus and probably dates for the period 1820-1850, although it has no makers mark. The date is based on the horizontally sliding eye lens cover, solid wood main tube, very thin ferrel edges of the draw mounts and the red brass which has higher copper content.
Optically the telescope works almost as well as it did on the day the it was made perhaps 200 years ago. It forms a clear sharp image when focused by moving the smallest draw to the appropriate position.  Consistent with high end telescopes, the triplet achromatic objective is composed or three separate glass lenses. As seen in pic 3, a laser pointer shining through the lens shows an upside down Christmas tree pattern with 4 bright central dots forming the trunk. These are reflective surfaces on the front and back as well as the junctions between the middle concave and outside convex lens. Very cool. The brass is curled (bent) over the lens holding it in place (pic 4), so it is a good thing the lens is fairly clean.
As noted the telescope has been repaired at some point in its life. As shown in the seventh image, a screw in the sunshield moves in guide slit cut in the underlying brass which is fixed to the wood main tube. The brass near the slit has been damaged by this screw, which slipped out of its grove. The base of this brass near the wood is also bowed and the sunshield does not close completely nor does the closed sunshield extend beyond the object lens. I believe the wood main tube was lathed so this brass cover could be added; however, the repairs produced an internal block that prevents the largest draw from closing completely as shown in pics 8 and 9. Finally, a slit has been added to the eye tube near where the eye tube cap screws onto the telescope (last pic). Amazingly, the telescope is in pretty good shape and is no more fragile than most 200 year old antique telescopes. Longevity will require the owner to use care in opening and closing both the sunshield and the draws.
The scope is about 10 inches long when folded (to the degree possible), 24 inches long when extended and has an objective lens with a diameter of almost 1 1/2 inches. All key junctions can be dissembled for cleaning if that should become necessary. Be sure to examine the images as they form an important part of the description.
Although shipping is listed as economy, items will generally be shipped priority if costs are comparable.   I will consider sending the telescope to restricted countries if a buyer seems responsible and assumes shipping risks.
