    Description

Fortieth President of the United States
    RONALD REAGAN
    1981 – 1988
Ronald Reagan won the 1980 presidential election with a landslide victory. A former Hollywood actor and two-term governor of California, Reagan was, at age 69, the oldest candidate to be elected president. His optimistic attitude encouraged Americans and his courage in the aftermath of an assassination attempt won their admiration. Using skills he mastered in Hollywood; Reagan quickly became known as the “Great Communicator.” During his two terms as president, Reagan sponsored policies designed to decrease the power of the federal government. He increased the
    defence
budget and worked for a balanced budget by eliminating domestic programs. A popular leader both at hem and abroad, Raegan left the presidency in 1988 and retired to his home in California.
