Rare 1937 BRONZE MEDAL CEKEBRATING THE 100th ANNIVERSARY OF S.E.L. MADURO & SONS.
Salomon Maduro, a self-made man, was one of a small number of successful Jewish merchants trading in the Caribbean in the mid-1800's, having founded his nautical trading company in Curacao in 1837.
His sons later joined the business which is currently known as The Maduro Group and continues to provide a variety of shipping services around the world. Engraved by Onorio Ruotolo, this 76mm round medal shows the bearded Salomon Elias Levy Maduro (1814-1883) on the obverse and a native nautical motif on the reverse.
The edge, as shown, is inscribed for the Medallic Art Company of New York. As shown, this is in excellent condition with no defects that I note. I'm always happy to combine multiple items to reduce total shipping costs.
