    Description

Rare Antique Judaica HERZL Memorial Medal 1860-1904 Jewish National Fund Pendant
Herzl is considered the father of modern Zionism and a leader in finding a homeland for Jews in modern Israel. The Hebrew inscription which in incuse on the obverse can be translated,
If you are determined (if you can will it), there is not a fetter (nothing can stop you)
describing his determination on behalf of Jewry worldwide. This is only the second time I have come across this medal. I assume it scarce, if not rare.
Herzl was the founder of the Zionist movement at the turn of the 20th century. The Jewish National Fund raised funds to purchase land in what is now the State of Israel. I believe this piece was produced very shortly after Herzl's death in 1904.
The medal is in very good condition, well struck and with a nice natural patina. Some scratching and minor denting throughout from years of storage and use. Please expect tarnish as shown.
Nice little medal and very hard to find. While a variety of later memorial pieces have been created, this very early piece is seldom seen.
Metal: Appears to be silver. Not sure though.
