Description
Up for sale and your consideration, is a relatively rare / hard-to-find, President Grant DX "export" radio, which has dual BJT finals and 120 channels total (3-bands of 40 channels) to operate in AM / FM / SSB modes.And although it's in VERY clean cosmetic condition (both outside and inside) it is being sold for "Parts or Repair Only".!
Let me repeat., it is being sold for "Parts or Repair Only"., for someone who believes they can rectify what was done to it by another so-called shop / "technician" :-(
In photo #10 (showing the inside of the speaker-cover) in which I used "Microsoft Paint" to blur-out the date in just the photo itself (though it's still there "in-person"), so that it can be seen where the radio originated from, but without the date (to the public here) should help with the anonymity of its possible 1st owner...
This unit was originally brought to my attention by someone hoping I would "bring-it-back-to-life"., but unfortunately I do NOT have either the time (waaay too many other radios & amplifiers to repair here) nor do I have another "donor-radio" (to obtain certain model-specific parts) which would be required to even begin repairing it to my (Klein Communications) standards.!!
As can be seen from the photos, this unit is in very good / clean condition, both outside and inside., and one can also see in the 1st photo, that the unit powers-up along with its display.
Also, the PLL (phase-lock-loop) circuit AND the VCO (voltage-controlled-oscillator) circuit were both tested by me (Klein Communications) which operate as usual, and will "VCO lock" just fine.! :-)
But because of what was done to the 3 receive tuning transformers, and the 3 transmit tuning transformers (namely, having had regular, HARD, candle-wax / paraffin dripped into them) and now all the ferrite-cores being cracked., that even if I had a donor radio to exchange those transformers, who knows what else might possibly be required to attain full functionality...
BTW & FYI., the last photo (#15) is just a photo of my present "surgery-table" where this unit was originally diagnosed, and then decided on its "parts-shelf" status :-(
And since I unfortunately no longer have any specific use for it (or the extra shelf-space)., my loss can now be your possible gain.??
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++
If you have ANY questions at all, or are in doubt of any aspect of this VERY clean, but "in need of repair" radio., then PLEASE just ask me BEFORE bidding / purchasing.!!
I've always said., "There's NO such thing as a stupid question., just those that are TOO proud to ask"...
And I'm usually here "on the bench" (as can be seen on my eBay profile-page), so that if someone would ever like to contact me (Eric) for "tech help" or any other electronics related issues, they can feel free to do so.! :)
* I'm also VERY particular with the way my items are shipped (as can be seen in photos 13 and 14) and as such (although it's in "parts only" condition)., this unit (as shown) will be packaged properly AND safely, being double-boxed, and therefore will increase the shipping weight by about a pound.
"Better Safe Than Sorry"., yes / no.?!
FYI., the shipping cost shown (at your location) is automatically calculated by the USPS system, depending on your destination zip-code, coming from my zip-code location. There will never be ANY extra shipping charge beyond that of what it actually costs me.!!
Anyway., thanks for reading my little "mini-novel" here (usually they're MUCH longer.!)., as I want to have people knowing EXACTLY what it is they're purchasing., and TRULY enjoy having people get a better understanding of some of this "electronics stuff"...
My philosophy is that., "An Educated Customer., Will Always Be Your Best Customer".!!
