Pontos Zela Julia Domna AE Quadriga UNPUBLISHED EXTREMELY RARE.
Heres an incredibly rare coin with an unpublished reverse. Pontos Zela Julia Domna AE29 NGC AU 4/5 2/5 smoothing.
Zela is famous for the Battle of Zela in 47 BC, in which Julius Caesar stated after victory "Veni, vidi, vici", or "I came, I saw, I conquered."
Obverse depicts Julia Domna, reverse Septimius Severus driving quadriga. This is only the second example we could locate, the first being in much lower grade (around a Fine), contributed by Mark Fox to Wildwinds in 2014. Coins of Julia Domna from Zela are very rare, but usually have a temple reverse. A similar condition example as ours but with the temple reverse just sold for around 0 in a Bertolami sale. While we could not locate any sales for a Julia Domna Zela coin with this reverse, we located a Septimius Severus Zela coin with this reverse, which sold at Gorny Mosch 276, lot 332 for 550 Euro plus buyers fee, or around 0.
