Ross 10 X 80 ‘Captain sight’ Deck Mounted & Hand Held Binocular
This is an original binocular made at Ross London 1944, one of the largest hand held military binocular along with the original mahogany box, partly covered with green velvet. It was delicately handled and preserved nicely with the original yellow admiralty arrows on its tubes. This kind of binocular was only given to larger naval ships like Cruisers and Battleships making it circulation very limited and only few hundreds were made.
It was preserved with delicate care hence the performance of its optical is excellent. It is a Porro II construction with coated lenses and extendable sun shields.
The condition of the lens and optical quality is really good, making its vision exceptionally bright with a wide panoramic view.
The prism housing includes a filter carousel with Russian yellow, dark neutral, light neutral and clear adjustable with a knob on the front of the housing. It also has sealed air connector for a seal test or purifying dry air on the front of the housing.
This binocular can be used both ways - it can be mounted on a fixed position and also able to use by hand as it has neck strap lugs. This binocular by Ross London is a rare historical antique with an original finish and provenance.
