Description
These 2 hard-bound journal books are the hand-written 1952 to 1957 archives of the British League of Racing Cyclists.According to Wikipedia:
The British League of Racing Cyclists was an association formed in 1942 to promote road bicycle racing in Great Britain.
It operated in competition with the National Cyclists' Union, a rivalry which lasted until the two merged in 1959 to form the British Cycling Federation.
Together these two volumes chronicle the club's participation in events and activities from 1952 to 1957, just before the end of its autonomous period.
They contain hand-written descriptions of road races the club participated in between 1952 and 1957, all of them are illustrated with hand-drawn colored maps and pasted-in period newspaper clippings with lots of photos.
The first volume, measuring 9" by 7" and titled "Three Years with the League, the Story of Three Great Years with the British League of Racing Cyclists", covers 1952 to 1954 and the second volume, measuring 12-3/4" by 7-3/4" and untitled, covers 1954 to 1957.
They include descriptions of events all over Europe such as the Tour de France and the Tour of Britain.
The journal entries appear to have been made by several different club members, but they are mainly in neat block letters and are easy to read.
Volume 1 contains 172 pages of archives and volume 2 contains 109 pages of archives plus some blank pages at the end.
The page edges and bindings of both volumes are worn but the pages are all securely attached, except for about 5 pages in total that are loose.
This is a one-of-a-kind, 65-year-old historical account made during Great Britain's post-war recovery period.
