    Reverse shows an inscription.
Minted between 40 and 4 BC.
Herod the Great was a client king under Rome. The founder of the Herodian Dynasty,
he was paranoid and feared by
his people, but was also a great builder. Known for his
colossal projects he was responsible for renovating the Second Temple, building
    Caeserea Maritima, Herodium
    and the fortress of Masada.
He is also mentioned in the Bible of being threatened by the newborn
Jesus of Nazareth, and trying to have him killed. He feared no one would mourn him,
    so he ordered
that upon his death many prominent Jews should be killed so that
at least there would be some mourning
in the land. It doesn't seem this was carried out.
Authenticated by the NGC, it was given the grade "
    CHOICE
    FINE
    " with a
    4/5 for Strike
    and a
    3/5 for Surface
    .
