Description
NGC graded, serialized and encapsulated bronze Jewish Prutah coin,of Roman Prefect Marcus Ambibulus, governor of Judaea from 9 until 12 AD.
Obverse shows a palm tree with an L and M on either side.
Reverse shows an ear of Barley.
Originally a cavalry officer, Ambibulus succeeded Coponius in 9 AD,
becoming the second prefect of Judaea under Emperor Augustus.
He ruled the province for only 3 years, being succeeded by Annius Rufus (12 - 15 AD)
and then Valerius Gratus (15 - 26 AD) and then Pontius Pilate (26 - 36 AD)
Authenticated by the NGC, it was given the grade "
FINE
" with a
2/5 for Strike
and a
3/5 for Surface
.
