Description
You're bidding on a vintage-to-antique medal - a commemorative originally issued by Congress in honor of Maj. Gen. Peter Buell Porter in 1814 for the Battles of Chippewa, Niagra and Erie. This appears to be a later minted copy, based on the overall patina and also, the 17 in "Sep 17" on the obverse does not appear to be overstriked as it would be from the original dies. Probably bronze plated copper in line with the original issue composition - it does not magnet attract so it's all non-ferrous medal. Some surface abrasion - not sure exactly of the age, but it does have nice patina while still retaining some luster. About 2 5/8" diameter and thickness of about 3/16". Please
review photos carefully to make your own determination of overall condition and appeal, and don't hesitate to ask any questions prior to bidding - thanks for looking!
