    Description

Huge 1929 Thomas Edison Bronze Medal, For The 50th Anniversary Of The Invention Of The Incandescent Light Bulb.  Struck by Whitehead and Hoag Co. Newark, New Jersey, in the Fine Arts Department of the Whitehead and Hoag Co.  Bronze, 127 mm diameter, and in excellent condition.  This is the largest struck medal of the United States that I know of, even larger than any U.S. Mint struck Medal that I am aware of.  It was struck for employees of the W&H co. in their Art Department and only a very small number were struck.  The sculptor is Julio Kilenyi, and signed near the shoulder.  I have owned the medal for many years and only know of a couple of others.  The W&H Art Department could not have had many employees, I would estimate that fewer than twenty were given the medals.  A very scarce, large, and impressive medal, and an attention getting highlight of any U.S. medals collection.
