    Description

Forty-first President of the United States
    GEORGE BUSH, Sr.
    1989 – 1993
George Bush, Sr. was born into a prominent New England family. During World War II, he served with distinction as a Navy pilot in the Pacific. Back state-side, Bush founded an oil production company and his business successes propelled him into politics. He was elected a U.S. congressman in 1966 and served until 1970. He then chaired the Republican National Committee and served as ambassador to the United Nations and director of the Central Intelligence Agency. Hie two terms as Ronald Teagan’s vice president ensued his nomination for the presidency in 1988. As president, he oversaw America’s involvement in the Persian Gulf War and the release of American hostages in the Middle East. Yet a failing economy at home and other domestic problems complicated his bid for re-election in 1992.
