    Description

Wonderful bronze cast medal commemorating Marie de Medici (1575-1642), who was Queen of France as the second wife of King Henry IV of France.
Very interesting medal with inverted legend by Guillaume Dupré, who was undoubtedly one of the most important French medallists of the 17th century.
Old, but probably later cast, beautiful specimen.

I am currently reorganizing my collection of Art Nouveau and Art Deco medals and plaquettes, mainly from France. Over the next weeks, I will regularly put on sale medals of prominent medal artists.
If you are interested in medals of that period, I would like to recommend the book 'French medallic art 1870-1940', which I published in 2010.
