    Description

    This is a fine set of English measures made of brass. They are in very good condition. with the sizes being PINT, HALF PINT, GILL, HALF GILL, and 1/4 GILL. On one side of each measure is stamped LOFTUS LONDON (maker). On the other side is a crown, VR (Victoria Regina);  and 239 LCC (London City Council). (see photos) Of particular interest, G H HONE ADMIRAL ELLIOTT is inscribed on the bottom of the largest and smallest measures. (see photo) The Admiral Elliott was an English pub located at 18 Crown Street, Gillingham, Kent. According to an article “The Admiral Elliott opened in the 1870s and was named after Admiral Elliott who was returned to Parliament in 1874.” Also, G H Hone is George Henry Hone, the person who was granted the license to operate the pub.  This set is very well made, weighing 4 3/8 pounds, and with the pint weighing 2 pounds by itself.
