COMMODUS AND ANNIUS VERUS Æ19 OF CILIA, TARSUS MUSEUM REPRODUCTION ROMAN PROVINCIAL 166-177 A.D. COPPER COIN
Æ Copper Roman Provincial (19.6mm, 3.61g.) Commodus and Annius Verus. Caesars, AD 166-169/70 and AD 166-177. Cilia, Tarsus mint, struck under Marcus Aurelius. References: RPC IV online 5035; SNG von Aulock 5993; SNG BN 1455-7. Marcus Annius Verus Caesar (c 162 – September 10th, 169 AD) was the first son born of thirteen children with his wife Faustina. In 166, he was made his father’s first heir and named Caesar at the age of five. On September 10th, 169AD, he died of natural causes in Rome. His death resulted in his brother Commodus becoming his father’s heir and later successor.
This issue was hand struck (hammered) in Plovdiv, Bulgaria (ancient Roman province Philippopolis). It goes without saying you always get the exact item in the picture.
