    Description

    Good Day All,
This is a BROADHURST CLARKSON 5-Draw Telescope with the very rarely seen original manufactures box. It is a well-engineered instrument for the serious user or collector. Overall, this is an excellent, original, unrestored condition telescope of what became the leading branded instrument for target shooters, astronomical, explorers on excursions, game hunters on Safari, stalkers, and nautical use. I personally purchased it from a Norfolk, UK auction house in 2009 when I was stationed in England.
This the largest telescope of its type produced by BROADHURST in limited quantities. These telescopes had no serial numbers assigned to them, so their precise year of manufacture is always an estimate. Based on the box markings (postal codes) and overall excellent condition, the telescope is likely a early post WW2 production
The first draw/tube is calibrated to permit manual variable magnification by manipulation of the first draw tube. It can be set from 30-60 power before or after focusing.
    The makers’ marks are engraved:

The achromatic 75 mm Objective or Field Lens has no chips or scratches. The 3.5” leather-clad extending sunshield for the objective lens and remaining draw (tube) movements are very smooth to deploy. All tubes have individual threads and can be removed for cleaning. The brass tube construction has the original brown leather covering. The stitching leatherwork on the tube, leather end caps, carrying strap and securing brackets/buckle is all intact, tight and original. All brass sections have their original darkened finish. There has been no restoration, except some general cleaning. The glass and images are precise, sharp and clear, even in low level lighting conditions.
There are three slight indentations can be seen and felt on the main section of the leather-covered barrel. They have absolutely no effect on the ease of movement of the 5th draw so it is obvious that they are very shallow. The leather sections show a little age and use-related scuffing with a few scratches
The closed length is 12" or 30.5cm. Fully extended with magnification set at 60, it measures approximately 43.5" or 110.5cm.
