    Obverse:  uniformed bust left with PETRUS II - BRAZ. IMP. around
    Reverse: crowned arms of Brazil with EMANCIPATIO ET CORONATIO - MDCCCXL - MCMXL around,
    Plain edge.
    After the abdication of his father Pedro I on April 7, 1831, the five-year-old Pedro II was appointed his successor. The official business for him was taken over by a council of regents determined by Parliament. Pedro was declared an adult and free of regency early in 1840 at the age of 14.
