For sale is a BENJAMIN FRANKLIN Fur Hat Medallion. This is a reproduction of the famous Nini medallion originally cast in the late 18th century.
This is a nice, solid piece, and appears to be made of copper. It measures approximately 4.25 inches (10.8 cm) across and weighs approximately 18.25 ounces (529 grams). It is about 3/16 of an inch wide (4.75 mm) at the edges and about 9/16 wide (14.25 mm) at its thickest point.
There is a raised portrait of Franklin on the front and the back is blank except for a dimple in the center.
The medallion shows handling wear with a few small scratches. There is a warm patina overall with a few small green spots.
It isn’t clear how old this item is but it has been in my family since at least the early 1970s.
