Description:
Roman Provincial Bronze Coin of Marcus Aurelius from Amphipolis. 98 – 117 A.D
Obverse:
Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Emperor Right
Reverse:
ΑΜΦΙΠΟΛƐΙΤΩΝ, Tyche (or City Goddes Artemis Tauropolis) seated left on throne , but leaning forward with torso turned to facing while holding out holding patera with one hand and holding filleted cornucopia (? or veil? or serpent?) with left.

gF/aVF. Really nice example of this type.

Note:
Amphipolis was home to an imperial cult, worshiping the living emperor, and to a cult dedicated to Artemis Tauropolos. The obverse depicts Trajan as a military victor and possibly copies an imperial statue. The reverse may depict a local statue of Artemis Tauropolos.
The Race-torch, the usual reverse-type of the coins of Amphipolis, reminds us of the worship of Artemis Tauropolos or Brauronia, who was especially revered at Amphipolis, and in whose honour Torch-races, Lampadephoria, were held (Leake, Num. Hell., p. 11).
