    Note:
    Hadrianopolis
    (moder Edirne, Turkey)
was an ancient inland town of Thrace
    on the Hebrus river
    . The town was
    founded by namesake Hadrian
on the site of a previous Thracian settlement
named Uskudama. The town was a Quasi-autonomous imperial city from the reign of rome emperors Antoninus Pius until Tranquillina.
The coins from this area generally bear the inscription ΑΔΡΙΑΝΟ- ΠΟΛΕΙΤΩΝ.
The coin Types often refer to the labours of Herakles and on some specimens the river-god ΤΟΝΖΟC, a tributary of the Hebrus, is displayed. The Hebrus is today the Maritsa which has a length of 480 km (300 mi) and is the longest river that runs solely in the interior of the Balkans. Its drainage area is about 53,000 km2 (20,000 sq mi), of which 66.2% in Bulgaria, 27.5% in Turkey and 6.3% in Greece.
In Greek mythology, Orestes, son of king Agamemnon, built this city as Orestias, at the confluence of the
    Tonsus
    (Toundja) and the
    Ardiscus
    (Arda) with the
    Hebrus
    (Maritza).
The city was (re)founded eponymously by the Roman Emperor Hadrian on the site of a previous Thracian settlement known as Uskadama (or Uskudama, Uskodama).
This town was previously the capital of the Thracian tribe of
    the Bessi or the Odrysians
. Hadrian developed it, adorned it with monuments, changed its name to Hadrianopolis.
    He also made it the
capital of the Roman province of Thrace
    .
Licinius was defeated there by Constantine I in 323, and Emperor Valens was killed by the Goths in 378 during the Battle of Adrianople (378).
    Faustina Junior
(Faustina II, Faustina Minor, Faustina the Younger), circa 130 CE — 175/176 CE, was a
    daughter of Roman Emperor
    Antoninus Pius
and Roman Empress Faustina the Elder. She was a Roman Empress as
wife to her maternal cousin Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius
. She was held in high esteem by soldiers and her own husband and was given divine honours after her death. Among several childern she gave birth to two future ceasars in sons Marcus Annius Verus Caesar (who died at age 7) and Lucius Aurelius Commodus Antoninus, aka Commodus, who ruled after Marcus Aurelius until his own death in 192.
