It has been a time-honored tradition among the astronauts of NASA missions to carry mementos of their journeys into space, which serve as keepsakes upon their safe return to earth. Since the launch of Apollo 7 in 1968, Robbins medals, struck by the Robbins Company of Attleboro, Massachusetts, have flown on every manned mission. Each medal is specially designed, based upon the patch worn by the members of the crew, engraved with key dates of the mission. This 2021 Robbins commemorative medals honors the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 14 flight. The medal's design is based upon a scan of a genuine space-flown medal, featuring the mission insignia which was designed by the astronauts themselves, Lunar Module Pilot Edgar D. Mitchell, Command Module Pilot Stuart A. Roosa and Commander Alan B. Shepard Jr.
This non-legal tender 50th Anniversary Commemorative 2021 Apollo 14 Robbins Medal was struck at the Sunshine Mint (USA).
The medal contains 2 Troy oz. of .999 fine silver, struck in an oval shape!

Stunning Design Modeled From the Apollo 14 Mission Patch
Obverse: The obverse features the earth in the background, with a stylized rocket travelling towards the moon. The rocket design is borrowed from the distinctive Astronaut Pin. The pin is a symbol of achievement in the career of an astronaut, earned in silver once training is complete, and in gold after they've flown in space for the first time. The names of the three astronauts, "SHEPARD," "ROOSA" and "MITCHELL" curve below, with "APOLLO 14" appearing boldly above.
Reverse: Emulating the original Robbins Medal, the Apollo 14 mission's critical launch, lunar landing and return to earth dates are centered on the reverse, surrounded by the full names of the three astronauts. The honorary design includes the anniversary dates "1971-2021" and "2 TROY OZ .999 AG."
