Here is a
nice 1996 MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS, BOSTON BRONZE MEDAL COMMEMORATING JONATHAN LEO FAIRBANKS 25 YEARS AS HEAD OF THE AMERICAN DECORATIVE ARTS & SCULPTURE DEPARTMENT AT THE MUSEUM. It is artist signed "R. SHURE. '96" on obverse.
The thick, heavy, bronze is a hair under 3" wide. Marked "MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS. BOSTON" on edge. Beautifully-designed medal. I don't know if this was a unique gift to Fairbanks for celebration of his 25 years, or if more were made. I was not able to find another example. It is in new-looking condition. Comes in its original box.
JONATHAN LEO FAIRBANKS (b.1933) is an American artist who created the American Decorative Arts & Sculpture department at the Museum, of which he was the head from 1970-1999.
