Description
A bronze medal which commemorates the 30th anniversary of fishing limits protection in Iceland, the legislation was later expanded and eventually led to the Cod Wars between Iceland and Great Britain. The medal is very well made and has extraordinary detail. The medal is approximately 2” in diameter, weighs 3.2 ounces. the bronze medal is marked 0226/3000 on the edge (presumably only 3000 of these were made in bronze). The obverse of the medal shows an outline of the country of Iceland with a topographical map of the sea floor and continental shelf surrounding the island nation. The high relief cut out of this map makes for a very eye appealing design. The reverse of the medal has the words Land Grunns Login in the center along with the date April 5, 1948-1978. From what I have been able to find on this, it appears that it was minted at the request of the Ministry of Fisheries and Agriculture in Iceland and was struck by the Sporrong Company in Sweden in 1978.1978 Iceland Medal 30th Anniverary of Fishing Limits Bronze.
