11965 Medallic Art 12th President Zachary Taylor. Circulated high relief bronze medal approximately measuring 1.25" diameter by 1/8th thick. Appearance matte finish with shine. Minimal black spotting, other discolorations. Natural manufacture metal mold blemishes. Edges have slight scuff wear. MEDALLIC ART (fairly legible on edge). No box or pamphlet. Description
Presidential Art Medal Zachary Taylor, our 12th President. He served from 1849-1850.
He was born in Orange County, Virginia on November 24, 1784.
A bit of History:
Promoted to Captain, Taylor joined the Seventh Regiment sent to aid General William Henry Harrison in his campaign against Tecumseh in Ohio in 1811. He commanded a rear guard in action while Harrison won the famous Battle of Tippecanoe. When the War of 1812 opened, Taylor was in caommand of vulnerable Fort Harrison in present-day Indiana. After only about sixteen months in office, Taylor was stricken with cholera morbus while attending a cornerstone ceremony for Washington's Monument on July 4, 1850. Before his death, Taylor left a simple message for the nation: "I have tried to discharge my duties faithfully; I regret nothing."
