Description
This unusual uniface medal is a restrike of a design originally proposed for half dollars and cents in 1792, in the earliest days of the fledgling U.S. Mint. The design was rejected by Washington himself, and would have been consigned forever to numismatic history books but for 20th century Massachusetts coin enthusiast Albert Collins. 167 years later, in 1959, Collins struck this piece from a transfer of the original die.About World Coins R Us
