Description
Nike of Samothrace Plaquette,1919.
70 x 42mm. Gilt Bronze. Edouard-Pierre Blin, Sc. (1877-1946). Uncirculated. Edge incused BRONZE with Triangle mint hallmark.
Obverse:
The Nike of Samothrace striding forward within a field of laurel leaves. Below the figure is the inscription: QUOVIS CUM VULNERE/ VICTRIX
(With Every Wound, Victorious).
Signed lower right: E. BLIN/ D’APRES L’ANTIQUE.
Reverse:
a female figure in classical dress, is seated in a contemplative pose; with an oak tree and Greek temple in the background. Signed below the figure, bottom right: E. BLIN. A cartouche below is inscribed: L’ASSOCIATION GENERALE/ DES MUTILES DE LA GUERRE/ A/ M.LE DR. FERNAND THUREL. Inscribed at bottom: MEMINIT PATRIA

Perhaps Edouard Blin’s most recognizable medal is the "Nike of Samothrace", engraved just after the end of WWI and awarded to those injured during the war, the French "Purple Heart".
