1916 Georg August Gaul WWI Military Germany Scrap Rubber Collection Goethe Medal

Item Description:
Fresh from an Estate Sale, you are bidding on a Rare,
Vintage, High Relief, 1916 WWI German Medal created by the Medalist, Georg August Gaul, as a Token of Gratitude for those Germans that took part in the Scrap Rubber Collection ("Altgummi Sammlung") to support the War effort in Germany.  This is the "Table Medal" Version of the one that is worn around your neck or on your lapel.
Front has a picture of an Oak Tree in Bloom covered by a thunderstorm cloud.  Flanking the trunk are the dates 1914 and 1915, while under the tree trunk is the date 1916 and below that the artist name "Gaul".
The Reverse has what is referred to as the "Chorus of Ants" taken from Faust, which was written by Goethe.  The outer rim has 5 ants and 5 bees.  The symbolism is that in ancient times Ants supposedly collected Gold Dust and Bees are Diligent Workers, hence humans collecting scrape rubber.  The writing on the back is taken from Goethe and is says, "Das Allermindeste Musst Ihr Entdecken Auf Das Geshwindeste in Allen Ecken", Goethe, which means "Nimbly come in and out in such clefts as these", by Goethe.
Medal is made of Iron and measures approximately 71mm wide and weighs approximately 69.3 grams.
