    1909 HUDSON-FULTON CELEBRATION WORLD'S FAIR Fob or Medal: AMER. NUMISMATIC SOC.
    This is an old fob or medal commemorating the 1909 Hudson-Fulton Celebration -- it was the 300th anniversary of the discovery of the Hudson River by Henry Hudson and the centennial of Robert Fulton's first successful commercial application of the paddle steamer.
    One side shows Henry Hudson and his crew on the Half Moon ship. Along the rim of this side are the words DISCOVERY OF THE HUDSON RIVER BY HENRY HUDSON A. D. MDCIX, THE AMERICAN NUMISMATIC SOCIETY, and HUDSON-FULTON CELEBRATION COMM. The other side shows three female figures representing steam navigation above which is a portrait of Robert Fulton -- beneath the image are the words FIRST USE OF STEAM IN NAVIGATION ON THE HUDSON RIVER 1807.
