    Two female figures above the date MCMIV (1904) - Columbia, the taller figure, holds the United States flag; the youthful figure at her side represents the Louisiana Purchase Territory, symbolizing of her reception into the union, she divests herself of the cloak of France (the cloak is decorated with bees, the emblem of Napoleon); in the background is the rising sun, marking the dawn of a new era of progress to the nation; around the legend, VNIVERSAL EXPOSITION - SAINT LOVIS - VNITED STATES OF AMERICA
