Description
51mm diameter souvenir medallion, struck for the 1894 California Midwinter Exposition in San Francisco, CA. Choice Uncirculated, certified NGC MS-63DPL. Scarce overall, extremely so in this condition, as the composition worked against preservation. I do not know how many exist certified although I have seen at least a couple of others (NGC maintains no Census of these). Almost without exception, others raw & certified seen have typically been "baggier" and less attractive, as the soft P/L Aluminum surfaces picked up marks immediately. Obverse design used also for HK-261, Reverse similar as that used for HK-246/247, with minor changes. Dies not signed, however I would suspect Irving & Jachens or perhaps one of the other "fraternal goods" makers of the City, who also produced metallic materials. Pricing is difficult and is based upon my opinion as a long-time collector/dealerof similar material. Those who object are free to send me a message with a suggestion of something different - please just be polite.
