Description
This attractive medal (fob, drop) is a souvenir of the 1884 celebration of the centenary of the Methodist Episcopal Church, and its design is very high-relief (three-dimensional). One side has a bust of Francis Asbury, who was ordained by John Wesley and, as Bishop, led Methodism in the U. S. during its early years. This side has the wordsMETHODIST EPISCOPAL CHURCH ORGANIZED 1784
and, beneath the bust,
BISHOP ASBURY
. The other side has a bust of Bishop Matthew Simpson, whose efforts led the denomination in the second half of the 19th century. This side has the words

This medal is in extremely fine condition, with fairly light wear, signs of handling, and toning, and it remains bright.
